Fragile X syndrome

Fragile X syndrome

Fragile X is a genetic condition. Boys are more significantly affected by Fragile X than girls because of the chromosomal difference in the genders. The primary difference is that males suffer severe learning difficulties, whereas females typically have mild learning difficulties.

Fragile X is the second most common cause of learning difficulties resulting from a genetic condition. The main inherited cause of learning difficulty is Down’s syndrome. Autism and behaviour difficulties are commonly linked with Fragile X.

Fragile X is a complex condition which causes needs in all areas of life, including education, self-help, health and social skills. The level of support needed tends to be dictated by gender; males typically needing far more differentiated support than females. In all cases, Fragile X is a special educational need (SEN).

In our experience, children with Fragile X require support from speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, educational psychologists and paediatricians. In these circumstances, an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) will be necessary.

I am so happy at the outcome, I don't think we would have had such a comprehensive service from any other law firm, and you took the worry away...I do not regret a single second of the whole process, apart from the bit before you got involved.
