Prader-Willi syndrome

Prada-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic condition which can cause a range of difficulties.

Features of PWS are:

  • Constant hunger with obsessive eating habits and dangerous weight-gain
  • Reduced muscle tone
  • Learning difficulties
  • Restricted growth
  • Behavioural problems

A major component of PWS is the over-eating and weight gain and this can mean that the focus of support is medical to try to ensure that over-eating is managed and prevented. Because of the significant physical and cognitive difficulties that children with PWS have, it is very likely that a child with PWS would have special educational needs (SEN).

In our experience, children with PWS require a high level of differentiation and support to manage the complex mixture of needs. As such, in all cases we have acted in, the child has required the additional support of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

I am so happy at the outcome, I don't think we would have had such a comprehensive service from any other law firm, and you took the worry away...I do not regret a single second of the whole process, apart from the bit before you got involved.
